I See This Sign Everywhere

I've been to small dorps the other side of Johannesburg and i see this sign.

The Lonely Traveller

A guy walking through one of the quiet suburban streets. Pretoria has some of the most beautiful neighborhoods i've ever seen.

Yes people still get post

I love shooting postboxes. Maybe i'll do a series called Postboxes Of Pretoria.

The Far Reaching Peoples Poet

A few days before Nelson Mandela's birthday a couple of these posters popped up around Pretoria. The guy on the poster is known as the peoples poet but has up til now kept his sphere of influence within township life so to find a poster of him in white upperclass suburbia was interesting.
The changing face of Pretoria.

Garage Days

I got to sit in on a jam session for one of Pretoria's hardest all girl rock bands. I titled the whole series 'garage days' and it was an instant hit.

Fruit and Veg

Along Lynnwood Road travelling east before you get to Kingshighway is a fruit and veg shop that has for years been littering the streets with the funniest blackboard messages. On the day i took these shots however most of their boards hadn't been put out yet but i wanted to give you an idea anyway.

Good Guys Come Last

I've gotten to know this guy over the last while by doing a photo series with him and i'm amazed at what he's able to do with so little. It would be interesting to watch his progress with the right resources. He's a real good guy, even in the midst of such abject poverty.

The Morning After The Night Before

'churches'

This spot used to be a famous night club. These kind of superficial 'churches' are popping up all over Pretoria. There is a void of sorts in peoples lives at the moment and these vulture like mini business churche are filling that space... for a fee of course.

Look Carefully

I was at the Farmers Market at around four thirty in the morning and i saw this guy with a monkey on his lap wrapped up tightly in the middle of winter. I couldn't help but take a picture.

Does This Tell A Story Or What

Everything is gated these days but this house in particular had a strange feel to it. What is the purpose of these gates, to keep people in or to keep people out. After staring at it for a while it felt as if the house itself was jailed.

Two Buskers

A few hours later after the first shot the two jozi buskers moved to face the street. I jumped at the chance to shoot them with the Mcdonalds in the backround.

Could Be Anywhere In The World

I met these two guys busking on a street corner in Hatfield. They are from Jozi which is rare to have spotted them in Pretoria. A crowd gathered after a while with great intrigue. These guys were fantastic and the crowd really took to them. A sure sign of the changing face of Pretoria, once an ultra conservative city.
